Cooper Architectural Signs was founded in 1962 by 3 family members looking to start something different in the signage industry. Like most businesses, it started off in a garage. David Rothstein joined the company in 1965 as a 4th partner and they moved the company to Canoga Park, CA in 1972. In 1981, David and his wife, bought the company and took full ownership from the Cooper family. They changed the name to CAS The Sign Systems Company and then moved to the company to Sun Valley, CA in 1983. Matt Miller joined the team full time in 1996, after finishing college and working years as a part time employee. The company changed names once again to CASigns in 1997 and then moved to a new facility located in Pacoima, CA in 1999. After over 20 years of ownership, the Rothsteins’ sold the company to Matt and his wife in 2004. With new ownership came a new name, California Signs, Inc. dba CA Signs. Our past has 3 different ownerships, various name configurations and growing facilities but we still encompass the same core values we established over 50 years ago. Quality, Customer Service and Dependability. We’re more than just a sign company. We give our clients a way to visually showcase their branding and accomplishments in a prideful and elegant manner.

Owners

What started out as a summer job with one of his parent’s friends, turned into a path that would shape his professional career. Matt started working at CA Signs at the age of 13 and over several summers, he learned all the ways to produce and fabricate signage. After receiving his college degree, he returned to CA Signs to continue what he started years ago, this time moving into the administration and business side of the signage industry.

Years of project management, accounting and sales primed him to take over as the next owner when the company went up for sale in 2004. Matt and his wife, Yvette, saw the sale of the company as an opportunity to keep a great company going and turn that into something special.

Since his time as owner, CA Signs has seen it’s best years, in projects granted and overall volume, with constant upgrading to machinery and functions to ensure smooth production timelines and satisfied customers.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF JUSTIN MILLER

1979 – 2019

Justin was more than just the COO of CA Signs for 12 years. He was Matt’s brother and friend to us all.

He attended Cleveland Magnet High School. Justin graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with distinction in political science. He taught English and drama at Grant High School for four years before working at CA Signs.  

Justin enjoyed life. He loved to camp, hike, drink scotch, gourmet cook and most especially his family. He has been involved in Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times as a counselor and he has been a spokesperson for Think Cure.

Justin is survived by his mom, his dad, his brother Matthew and sister-in-law Yvette, his sister Kasey and brother-in-law Mark, and five adored nieces and nephews, Lila, Gavin, Milani, Ava, and Jake.

We will miss him every day. Stay golden, good looking!
